For my graduation project at the KABK, I digitised, interpreted and expanded a typeface from 1948. Antikva Manuskript, as the samples say, is a book typeface with a calligraphic touch. It reads like a book letter between 9 and 13 points, and becomes an idiosyncratic display face from 16 points and upwards. Currently in the process of getting it licensed. Contact me for a sneak preview of the font. 1120 characters, including small caps, tabular figures and capital punctuation.

The Dutch architect Berlage built more than a few landmark buildings in The Netherlands, of which two well-known ones in The Hague. A third piece (assumed to be Berlage) has drawn the eyes of more than one type designer. It has intensely bold lettering by Piet Zwart (who also designed roughly the same type on the First Church of Christ Scientist in the same city), and this is what finally made me build it. Based on a very elegant and simple monument, this is Monument Grotesk. A sans-serif for that special occasion.

I’ve remade the monument near the Binnenhof, part for fun, and part because it just looks so cool.
